Welcome to Bratenahl’s fickle spring. As you know, spring is a time of fresh new beginnings, perfect timing to provide an update on recent BCF Board additions and potential projects for the Bratenahl Community Foundation. First, the BCF Board welcomes three new members: Lee Burtelson, Emily Drake and Tim O’Brien. Lee and Emily are relatively new to the Village (2019) and Tim is a lifelong resident. To introduce, I paraphrase in their own words:

Emily Drake—Emily is a Managing Director with Fairport Wealth. She specializes in helping clients align their resources around their family values. A 30-year resident of Cleveland, Emily relocated to the Village from Cleveland Heights in 2019. In her spare time, Emily enjoys hiking, skiing, travel and reading historical fiction and mysteries.

Lee Burtelson—Lee and his wife Stacie moved to Bratenahl in 2019 from Chicago, and have grown to love the Village community. Lee and Stacie are active members of Shoreby and Newport Harbor and enjoy our Great Lake. Lee is a senior executive with ITW, leading the automotive aftermarket business.

Tim O’Brien—A life-long resident of Bratenahl, Tim and his husband Breck Platner, live in Bratenahl Courts, the handsome townhouse condominium on the northeast side of Bratenahl Road and Lakeshore, which some Villagers mistake for a library building!

Tim built his professional career in management consulting and executive search including Booz Hamilton & Allen and Russell Reynolds and Associates. After Reynolds, Tim started his own search firm which he ran for 19 years. For several years, Tim served on the Foundation Board of the Cuyahoga County Public Library. Tim is an avid cyclist and gardener.

The BCF Board welcomes our three new members and looks forward to utilizing their talents in advancing the BCF mission of serving the Village.

On other matters, BCF is planning a fundraising event which will likely occur in 2023. For 2022, we hope to host a BCF event this coming September. As a reminder, BCF is the only Foundation which is exclusively devoted to the Village, so we need your support and suggestions on serving Village residents. BCF also plans to underwrite some outdoor projects in the Village and will continue supporting the Village needs as requested. And last, but certainly not least, we will also provide you quarterly Lamplighters, maintaining the same high-quality Villagers have come to expect.

If you would like to serve on the Board or have any suggestions and/or constructive criticism, please let me know at gdegulis@mdllp.net. Hope to see you soon in our wonderful Village.
